Narrative is writing that tells a story. It has a sequence of events, the plot. Examples of Narrative: When your friend tells a story about seeing a deer on the way to school, he or she is using characteristics of a narrative.
What is Narrative Paragraph? Narrative paragraph tells a story or an event. It could be tale, novel, an account of one's life, natural phenomena, or social events… The story/events in narrative paragraph should be arranged chronologically (time order), that is in the order in which they have happened.
Because descriptive and evocative language is needed for this type of essay, around 1,000 words may be required at the least in order to tell a full-bodied story. Think of a narrative essay as a short version of a novel — each paragraph represents a “chapter” in the story.
Here are some writing tips for how to begin your first-person story:
- Establish a clear voice.
- Start mid-action.
- Introduce supporting characters early.
- Use the active voice.
- Decide if your narrator is reliable.
- Decide on a tense for your opening.
- Study first-person opening lines in literature.
- Attract the Reader's Attention. Begin your introduction with a "hook" that grabs your reader's attention and introduces the general topic.
- State Your Focused Topic. After your “hook”, write a sentence or two about the specific focus of your paper.
- State your Thesis. Finally, include your thesis statement.
